FRANCE: THE YOGURT MARKET

According to ACNielsen, the yogurt market represented FFr 9.94bn for the twelve months ending 11 April 1999, calculated monthly, and it rose 2.5% in volume. Light yogurt with fruit rose 30.3%, and Yoplait's 0% fat Panier rose from a 15.7% value market share to 20.6% in one year. The success of light yogurt with fruit hold with the growth of the strong values of fruit and better- tasting light products. Danone is still the leader with 34.1% of the turnover, followed by Nestle with 21.6%, and Yoplait with 20.6%. With Sveltesse Fruits et Fibres, Nestle has set itself apart by offering light yogurts which promise an additional health benefit. Standard yogurt ith fruit rose only 0.3% in volume and 1.5% in value. The segment of yogurt with fruit pulp rose 29.8% in volume and 25.5% in value. Yogurt with pulp for children represent a turnover of FFr 150mn, for 11,500 tonnes of sales. Nestle holds 81.4% of this segment, followed by Yoplait with 18.4% and Mamie Nova.

FRANCE: LA VIE OFFERS A LINE OF YOGURT

La Vie has introduced a line of organic yogurts made from whole milk. It comes in plain flavour, priced at FFr 8.60 for a pack of four; natural vanilla priced at FFr 10.70 for a pack of four, and stirred yogurt with strawberry, priced at FFr 13.30 for a pack of four. This line has been developed with the Senoble company, and is expected to be available in supermarkets and hypermarkets as of 2 November 1998.

FRANCE: VRAI LINE EXTENSIONS
Article Abstract:
Triballat-Noyal has added three new products to its Vrai line of chilled organic dairy products: a plain yogurt, yogurt with fruit (apricot and cherry), and a non-fat fromage frais. The yogurts come in a pack of four 125-gram pots and the fromage frais in a 500 gram pot. Triballat-Noyal plans to launch its Babyvrai line in 1999. This will be a line of organic dairy products for babies over four months old.
