'Face-mounted' eye-trek can help couch potatoes who want a tan
Article Abstract:
Olympus has developed a face-mounted video display that takes the shape of an eyeglass, and is complete with earphones for audio output. Held in place by a pliant nose-piece, the Eye-Trek uses special prism technology and a binocular effect, to project images from external equipment such as a video camera or a portable video CD player, onto two small, rectangular liquid-crystal screens mounted behind a metallic panel. Already installed by Japan Airlines in first-class 747-400 cabins of its long-haul flights from Tokyo to Europe and the US, the Eye Trek provides an image similar to that projected from a 62-inch TV screen, six feet away from the viewer. Priced at approximately $450, the Eye Trek requires a $55 battery pack.

Shooting of foreign film creates controversy on beach
Article Abstract:
The shooting of the film project 'The Beach' has been bedeviled by controversy ever since its director and producer chose to plant a 100 or so coconut trees on a deserted beach located on the Thai island of Phi Phi Leh. The move, which local environments claimed was a violation of Thailand's conservation laws, plunged the project into the center of a much-publicized debate that centered on corruption in Thailand's environmental agencies. The shooting of the film, which stars heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio, was still completed despite the bad publicity generated by the controversy.
