Family squabble
Article Abstract:
The joint venture between Maruti Udyog Ltd. and Suzuki Motor Corp. has been very successful for almost ten years, however, the relationship has faltered because of a dispute over the appointment of a new managing director. Suzuki feels that the appointee, R. Bhaskaruda, is unsuitable because he was unsure of important areas of knowledge and he has been weak with trade unions. The dispute could deter other foreign investors from venturing into projects in India without having a controlling interest. It also may affect the Indian government's privatization plans.

The dark side of alliances: lessons from Volvo-Renault
Article Abstract:
The alliance between Volvo and Renault collapsed after three years and six potential reasons for this are that there was disagreement between senior and middle-managers in France and Sweden; there was dependency on a particular course of action which made change difficult; attempts were made to change the terms of the contract; leadership problems; differences in culture between France and Sweden and time was also a factor because senior staff wanted the alliance to be completed quickly but it takes time to establish a good working relationship.

Volvo's disposal tactics criticised
Article Abstract:
AB Volvo of Sweden, automobile manufacturer, is completing its controversial disposals programme, and it has been criticised for handling the disposals carelessly. There are also concerns by bankers that the slimmed down company could be vulnerable to a takeover. The company wanted to put all its money into the car business to survive, following its abortive merger with Renault of France, a car maker, in 1993.
