Feeling sorry for themselves
Article Abstract:
Japanese retail sales dropped in Feb 1999, due to uncertainty felt by households, and consumption patterns are also changing, with younger people keen on DIY products. Interactive and real pets have become popular as more Japanese live alone. Demand for health products has been stimulated by the recession. There is greater emphasis on value-for-money. Discount furniture stores are seeing strong demand, and there is also a demand for cut-price holidays.

Article Abstract:

Changes are examined that could give shareholders more power and encourage companies to achieve productivity goals.
