Fees set for the high jump
Article Abstract:
The UK government is planning to raise the application fees so that the cost of running development control will be more realistically covered and more resources can be made available to planning authorities. The Association of Consultant Architects (ACA) too wants the fees to be increased but subject to the imposition of sanctions for failed performance.

The Association of Consultant Architects points out that policy statements create unnecessary overlap rather than streamlining the planning process. The key to improving the planning system can be achieved by injecting more money and better quality staff into the process or by simplifying procedures by cutting out duplications.
