A birthday in Bristol: As debate about a National Architecture Centre continues, there are lessons to be learned from the first year of Britsol's Architecture Centre
Article Abstract:
The Bristol Architecture Centre opened a year ago and has held eight exhibitions, as well as lectures linked to the exhibitions. It is open to the public six days a week and is responsible for all its running costs. It hires seminar rooms and rents from the top floors go towards paying off building costs. Director Sasha Lubetkin claims that the main problem is underfunding, with corporate membership not yet up to capacity. Lubetkin hopes that the Labour government will provide financial support to regional architecture centres.
