Note of caution
Article Abstract:
Asian stockmarkets have shown a decline in growth for 3rd qtr 1993 and so leading investment managers should advise clients to proceed with caution. Interest rates have remained low, meaning investments should be flexible to take advantage of the liquidity of the markets. Markets in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia have done well for the year, while Japan, Hongkong and Thailand have had less success. The effects of major corporate activities in the region are discussed.

Happy returns in Asia
Article Abstract:
Many rewarding investment opportunities developed in Asia during 4th qtr 1993, particularly in Hongkong, the banking industry, and larger markets, with the exception of Japan. For 3rd qtr 1993, suggested investment strategies include focussing on specific companies rather than sectors; buying stocks of public-works sector companies in Japan; and avoiding Hongkong. Taiwan and South Korea have had strong performers, but foreign investment is restricted.
