Waiting for reforms
Article Abstract:
A trade surplus of 144 million Australian dollars in Jul 1993 dampened attacks on Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating's budget for the fiscal year that commenced on Jul 1. A 7% rise in exports and a 1% rise in imports produced the surplus. This good news only temporarily strengthened the Australian dollar, which then fell to 65 US cents by Sep 6. Several factors contributed to this decline including lack of support for Keating's budget.
