Article Abstract:
A merger between Marconi Electronic Systems and British Aerospace (BAe) has been approved by the US authorities, and the new company is to be set up. It has 18,500 employees in the US, where it is a major supplier. The newly formed European Aeronautic, Defence and Space Company (EADS) is a BAe rival, but is also involved in JVs with BAe, with Airbus and Eurofighter among the JVs. There are questions over the future of Airbus which have to be resolved, and BAe wants a stake of over 20% in Airbus.
