French follies
Article Abstract:
French governments tend to favor protectionism and subsidies, and there have been complaints in Europe about unfair competition from Electricite de France (EdF) as it expands into European markets outside France. There is regulation in the electricity industry, so EdF is unlikely to treat British consumers badly if it expands into Britain. French taxpayers and consumers suffer if EdF is given unfair subsidies and other state help. The British should accept this generosity.
