Fresh funds for air traffic

China is investing $720 million on the modernization of its air traffic control infrastructure. Flagship projects include a new system at Beijing Capital airport and a new control center in Guangzhou. The Beijing Capital system, designed by Raytheon Electronic Systems, includes a solid-state, long-range primary radar, a monopulse secondary radar and is capable of processing radar signals from equipment from other manufacturers. The Guangzhou center, on the other hand, uses equipment mostly from US-based companies. Raytheon is providing primary and secondary radars, while Telephonics Corp. is supplying its AeroTrac system which consists of a multi-radar fusion data-processing system and a fully integrated flight data-processing system.
