Overhead weapons stations for under armor operations
Article Abstract:
Fitting overhead weapons stations (OWS) on armored vehicles has distinct advantages. OWSs allow for remote operation of a weapon from under armor, and can deal with secondary threats without distracting the main armament. A number of manufacturers adopted OWSs that describe a variety of systems. These include hand-operated systems at the lightweight end of the scale, and 25mm cannon-armed OWS-compatible only with heavier 6x6 or 8x8 Armored Fighting Vehicles at the high end.
