Friendlier skies
Article Abstract:
Negotiations between Garuda Indonesia Airways and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have resulted in a new air-services agreement. The compromise allows Garuda to offer Singapore-bound passengers service from more Indonesian ports of origin. On the other hand, SIA's Singapore-Jakarta-Singapore route must be serviced with smaller aircraft beginning Apr 1, 1992. The agreement supercedes a Dec 1990 arrangement deemed unfair to Garuda. Implementation of the agreement would also give Indonesia's newly formed Sempati Air better chances of competing with the services of the two major airlines.

Tilting at windmills
Article Abstract:
The Indonesian government has decided to sever all economic ties with the Netherlands. On Mar 25, 1992, Indonesia announced its decision to reject all future aid from the Netherlands and to disband the Inter-Governmental Group on Indonesia aid consortium. Analysts view the move as a reaction to attempts by Western donors to link Indonesia's respect for human rights and other preconditions with future aid packages.
