Andersen slips as PwC takes hold

PricewaterhouseCoopers provided corporate finance advice for more UK deals in 1998 than KPMG. The former firm undertook 415 deals worth $18.8 billion, with 215 of these deals, at a value of $10.8 billion, involving a UK target. In contrast, KPMG undertook 171 UK deals at 3 billion pounds sterling. Arthur Andersen advised on 64 deals worth almost 3 billion pounds sterling, a sharp increase on 1997. The strongest growth was seen at Ernst & Young, which increased the value of deals it carried out by 968 million pounds sterling.

US cash boosts UK performance
Article Abstract:
During the first nine months of 1998, merger and acquisitions activity in the UK totalled 35 billion pounds sterling, representing a four billion increase on the full year figures for 1997. US acquisitions accounted for 259 deals valued at a total of 15.1 billion pounds sterling. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter retained top ranking among UK financial advisers in terms of mandate value, while Schroders clinched the lead in number of transactions.
