Frozen meals
Article Abstract:
Frozen food sales in the UK rose by 16.5% from 3.555 million pounds sterling in 1992 to 4.143 million pounds sterling by 1996. The largest sector of the market in volume is frozen vegetables, which accounted for 638,000 tonnes during 1996. The frozen meat sector was affected by health scares over red meat and a rise in the number of vegetarians, causing the market to fall from 1,459 million pounds sterling in 1992 to 1,410 million pounds sterling in 1996. The frozen food market faces stiff competition from chilled foods which are often priced higher because consumers see them as fresher and healthier.
