The high caliber management and quality control found at Japanese-owned auto plants in the US is not generally found in Japanese run factories in other industries. A study by the Institute of Labor Relations found most Japanese-owned businesses in California are run as sweatshop operations.

A ministry diminished: Japan's financial markets
Article Abstract:
Japan's Fair Trade Commission has taken its first initiative since its formation, by investigating the four top securities firms, and overturing the Ministry of Finance's decision to close the case. The FTC's findings and its investigation of cross-shareholding are discussed.
