Fund analysts recommend alternatives as Thai-Asia seeks to attract investors
Article Abstract:
Thai-Asia Fund Ltd.'s share values continue to decline, prompting major shareholder Regent Pacific Group Ltd. to move for the elimination of Thai-Asia's special discounts. However, majority of Thai-Asia's officials and shareholders opposed Regent Pacific's recommendation, noting that stock repurchases will not help push prices back up. Thai-Asia is considering several alternatives to the Regent Pacific recommendation. One possible solution is to change Thai-Asia's status from a closed-end to an open-end mutual fund to allow it to peg stock prices based on net asset values.

Indonesia's converting country funds brace for potential bailouts by investors
Article Abstract:
Managers of a number of closed-end Indonesian country funds are worried of possible bailouts by investors once these funds are converted into open-ended mutual funds. Once converted, these funds will automatically lose discounts to net asset value, forcing fund managers to flood the market with stocks to meet fund redemptions of investors who have bailed out of the funds. Many of these funds are nearing the date of their transformation into an open-ended structure.

Funds seen as good way to make a Vietnam play
Article Abstract:
Vietnam represents a highly-lucrative but risky investment destination for foreign investors. Investors who want to tap the country's investment market can consider funneling their resources through several closed-end mutual funds. These mutual funds offer substantial returns and lower risks than other investment avenues. Three of the most popular and attractive mutual funds in Vietnam include Vietnam Industrial Investments, Barlile and Iddison Group Vietnam.
