ABN's net profit rises 3.2% as bank books provision due to probe

ABN AMRO Holding N.V. took a provision of $497.8 mil due to a U.S. Dept. of Justice investigation into the bank's dollar-clearing activities. ABN's revised filing for first-quarter net profit is now $1.41 bil. ABN is also in the process of an international acquisition battle, with Barclays PLC and a consortium of other banks vying to purchase the Dutch bank.
