GOVT SETS FLOOR PRICES FOR SECONDS STEEL
Article Abstract:
The Indian commerce ministry has laid down the floor price for imported seconds and defective steel. While the floor price for imported hot rolled coils (HRC) seconds is $232 per tonne, it is $245 for HR sheets. The floor price for Cold Rolled coils seconds is around $299, while it is $545 for tinplates, $577 for electrical grade steel and $311 for steel plates. The Government will impose penal duties on any imports priced below the floor price. The fixation of the price of HRC steel at $232 will reduce the imports of prime grade HRC that are priced below $232. This will enable Indian companies whose prices have been affected by cheap imports to raise their prices. (ag)
