Garden chemicals and growing media
Article Abstract:
The UK market for garden chemicals and growing media rose to 264 million pounds sterling in 1993, up 3% from 257 million pounds sterling in 1992. The market has been clearly affected by the economic recession, with spending down in real terms since 1989. Sales of agrochemical products totalled 31.4 million pounds sterling in 1993, with herbicides accounting for 14.7 million pounds sterling. Sales of growing media were affected by deep discounting of major brands at garden centres and DIY sheds in 1993, with the growth in own-label products affecting value sales of the sector.
