Gearing up for action
Article Abstract:
The West Midlands, England, is an important industrial region, particularly for the automotive sector and provides work for financial advisers based in the major city Birmingham. They are actively participating in a large number of joint ventures and mergers taking place in the sector, particularly automobile component suppliers. Car makers, having to compete globally, are competitively pressured to keep margins and costs low, and suppliers are forming alliances to rationalize their operations. Figures from KPMG show that some 1.7 billion pounds sterling was spent on acquisitions by West Midlands' companies in 1995/96.
