George Lloyd
Article Abstract:
Composer George Lloyd played in chamber groups with his parents from an early age. He was composing by the age of 10, and three of his symphonies had been played by UK orchestras by the time he was 25. He was particularly attracted to Verdi, and regarded Elgar as the UK's best 20th century composer. His work failed to appeal to the BBC after the second world war, and he spent 20 years growing mushrooms and carnations. However, he came to public attention again in the 1970s.
