Germany has enjoyed good trade with China by restraining from criticism, but a recent censure of China's Tibet policy by the Budestag brought warnings not to mess with China's 'internal affairs.' The criticism came after China banned foreign minister Klaus Kinkel from attending a conference in Tibet.

A meeting of Arab League ministers asked member states to suspend any normalization of relations with Israel. Direct trade between Israel and its neighbors has been too little to make much of a difference, however. Business cannot take over the peace process from failed politics.
