Global Crossing poised to unveil grid's timetable

Global Crossing Ltd., a firm based in Los Angeles, CA, and Hamilton, Bermuda, is slated to announce today, Oct. 1, 1998, its plan to build a $700 million fiber-optic telecommunications network that will link 18 European cities to the US, Latin America and Asia. The new network, which will link among others London, UK, Paris, France, and Milan, Italy, to other parts of the world, will be the second phase to Global Crossing's project to set up fiber-optic cables around the world. Global Crossing is hoping that with the announcement, customers will be lured to avail of the services of the network that it plans to begin building by October 1998. Global Crossing's network is expected to be operational by fourth quarter of 1999.

ENI to invest 5.16 billion in Libyan oil, gas sector

ENI SpA said that will invest approximately $5.5 billion (5.16 billion euros) for the development of Libyan oil and gas reserves. ENI of Italy stated that it reached agreements with National Oil Corp., the state-owned Libyan firm. The deal entails the export of large amounts of natural gas through a new pipeline measuring 600-kilometers long. The pipeline would run under the Mediterranean Sea into Sicily.
