Golf's no longer such a bogeyman in Korea
Article Abstract:
The phenomenal rise of young Korean Pak Se Ri in the international golf circuit reversed the negative image attached to golfers in South Korea. Pak Se Ri made four brilliant wins in her first year in the US women's professional tour. Since then, the sport's reputation as a luxury for the rich was changed into a passport to prosperity. Furthermore, the number of amateurs registered with the Korean Golf Assn jumped to 40% from Feb to Aug 1998. This development will be welcome to golf course owners who can now enjoy the respect of the public who previously sneered at their business.

South Korea gets connected
Article Abstract:
Mobile telephone companies are investing heavily in South Korea as they see huge opportunities in the market in the near future. It is found that over one-fourth of the country's 45 million population have mobile communication and as in Japan, South Korea is expected to have a penetration rate of 50% over the next few years. Foreign telecommunications companies, which are now allowed to own up to 33% of a South Korean mobile phone provider, are attracted by such possibilities, notwithstanding the on-going economic turmoil in the region.
