Honeywell widens market

Honeywell Airport Systems has expanded its airport operation with the company's Mar 1998 acquisition of airfield lighting maker Hughey & Phillips and the Jul 1998 purhcase of Daimler-Benz Aerospace's Airport Systems unit in Germany. Meanwhile, Honeywell Homes & Buildings, which has operations in 160 airports across the globe, builds management systems that include control and management systems, and air conditioning. Honeywell Airport's long-term objective is to provide a complete integrated systems for airfield operations.

Cautious expansion for FMC

FMC Corp, a supplier of ground support equipment, is broadening its product range in an effort to continue being the world's leading ramp equipment supplier. The company has two divisions dedicated to airport products: FMC Airline Equipment, an Orlando, FL-based maker of tow trucks, cargo loaders and de-icers, and Utah-based FMC Jetway Systems, which manufactures fixed ground power and passenger boarding bridges. These divisions are spending substantially on research and development to come up with new products.

Siemens has unveiled a new business unit called Siemens Airport Solutions that serves as a one-stop provider for such airport products as luggage and cargo handling systems, systems integration, airfield lighting and docking and guidance. The new group can offer integrated solutions on complete airport infrastructure by combining Siemens' capability and expertise in terms of airport services and products.
