Thai business tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi's success in the liquor distillery business resulted from his networking and willingness to take risks. Charoen's interest in the distillery business began when he married the daughter of a rich supplier of materials for a liquor distillery. He was able to start his business when he befriended his in-law's closest aides consisting of a marketing executive and a distilling expert. Many experiences were encountered by Charoen and his associates until they were able to win over his relative's distillery business and was then regarded as one of Thailand's best liquor concession.

Malaysian tycoon is back with another daring plan
Article Abstract:
Malaysian businessman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun plans to build the longest building in the world in Kuala Lumpur. Dubbed 'Giga World,' the $4.01 project calls for the construction of office towers, condominiums and shopping malls along and above the Kelang River. It will be anchored by KL Linear City, a 10-story, 2-km.-long tube-shaped structure positioned atop the river. The project has reportedly received the approval of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad.

Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi's transition from a concessionaire and bargain-hunter to the owner of conglomerate happened when the powerful businessman's distillery business became successful. Charoen was regarded as one of Thailand's top five wealthiest people. However, with his company's liquor licence due to expire in 1999 and a weakening of the nation's economy, Charoen should be ready to face the problems that may be encountered along the way.
