Business is taking charge as the new 'China lobby.'
Article Abstract:
The stereotypical image of Chinese businessmen as meek and uninterested in dealing with government is outdated. In an era of increased business opportunities and free-market reforms, China's business enterprises have exerted influence on the government's economic policies by dealing directly with the concerned ministries and agencies. This stands in contrast to the way lobbying is done in the US where business associations and professional lobbyists do the work for the businesses.

Tibetan Buddhism's struggle for peace shares the same tenets as modern democracy in the West
Article Abstract:
Modern democracy and Buddhism are compatible and founded in the common understanding of equality and the potential of the person. Economic progress and respect for a person's rights are closely connected. A society cannot completely optimize its economic edge without giving civil and political rights to its people. Respect for basic human rights and the rule of law are, in fact, fundamental conditions for a civilized society.
