IMF seems to be dispensing bad medicine by extending foreign-exchange loans to Asia in crisis
Article Abstract:
The International Monetary Fund's (IMF) policy towards managing the Asian currency crisis is wrong since Asia already has a tight fiscal policy and financial problems arose from overinvestment rather than overconsumption. The IMF should let Asia ease its fiscal policy, allow foreign liabilities to be bundled in US dollar securities for better liquidation and impose losses on international creditors if it is to help Asia regain its balance in international finance.

Hedge funds gain appeal: battered markets spur search for alternatives
Article Abstract:
The currency turmoil in Asia has left investors looking for alternative investments and hedge funds would surely fit in. Only two Asian funds posted gains in 1997 and both were hedge funds according to Standard and Poor's Micropal Asia Ltd. Micropal also claims that Asian funds retreated an average of 37% in 1997 while hedge funds retreated only slightly. Hedge funds have higher risks but the rewards are higher for investors.
