Iberdrola y Edp toman el control de la Empresa Electrica de Guatemala
Article Abstract:
An 80% stake of the electricity operator of Guatemala, Empresa Electrica de Guatemala (Eegsa), has been acquired by a consortium led by Iberdrola of Spain and formed by Electricidade de Portugal and Teco Power Service. The total amount of the operation is worth US$ 520mn. A 16.1% quota of Eegsa (which supplies 65% of the domestic electricity) will be sold in the stock exchange, and the rest 3.9% will be held by the same company (which will be re-named Distribucion Electrica Centroamericana). *

Union Fenosa elige como aliados a Edison y National Power
Article Abstract:
According to Spanish electricity company Union Fenosa, the only possible partners for a strategic alliance in a new power generation subsidiary are National Power and Edison SpA. Union Fenosa claims it will begin looking more closely at the offers by each one of these companies and will make a final decision in September, 1998. The company chosen will have a 25% stake in the new subsidiary. Companies now out of the selection process are NRG, Enron, and Electricite de France.

Spanish electricity company Union Fenosa is planning to sell up to 25% of its generation business and has asked Goldman Sachs to seek potential buyers. The aim of the company is to strengthen its position in the generation market and share future investments. As of December 1997 Union Fenosa's material assets were worth Pta 1,455,183mn, of which generation assets accounted for Pta 771,680.
