Warranties and indemnities are intended to allow the purchaser of a business to seek redress for misrepresentation, but often they are unfocused and cause tension between the vendor and purchaser. Negotiations over warranties and indemnities have become increasingly sophisticated and drawn-out, and vendors often use the timing and manner of disclosures against warranties as tactical weapons. Purchasers should therefore insist on receiving draft disclosures and documentation as soon as possible. The negotiating process should be used to complement, but not replace, the due diligence process.

New sources of bright, short-pulse x-ray radiation are described. In the laser synchrotron source, a tightly focused electron beam is used to scatter a pulsed infrared laser beam. Other approaches include soft x-ray lasers and laser-induced plasmas.
