Royal assent: sultans compromise on legal immunity

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mahathir Mohamad's government has forged an understanding with the country's nine hereditary rulers regarding the constitutional reforms on legal immunity limitation. The two parties finalized the undisclosed details of the compromiseduring the Rulers' Conference last Feb 11, 1993. Both the country's political and business sectors appreciate the compromise despite the lack of definite reports about its contents.

The prime minister of Malaysia, Abdullah is criticized for not being as bold as his predecessor Mahathir Mohammad and also on the cancellation or being postponed of the big-ticketing project. Abdullah is trying to follow the steps of his predecessor and also to bring in more advisers and professional managers who make up the reforms move softly.
