Commodity market activity in 1991 featured a brief second quarter rally followed by a prolonged price slump that produced a 10% overall decline. Metals and industrial materials prices fell, but higher grain prices limited the overall decline in food prices to 2%.

Copious commodities
Article Abstract:
The slump in commodity prices which began in 1988 is finally showing signs of a rebound, as the index has increased 7% from its low in Dec 1991. Still the market will not rebound completely until the huge supply of commodities worldwide becomes less plentiful.

Prices for raw materials and industrial commodities have risen 11% since Dec 1991 but the rate of change is now plus .5%. This could indicate an end to the recession. Economists should study commodity and raw material prices more.
