Indian shares prompt caution
Article Abstract:
The Indian share market's strong performance in the 1st Q of 1999 is due to the attractive 1999/2000 government budget that exempted the pharmaceutical, technology and consumer goods industries from new taxes. In addition, more investments flowed into the stock market because of the eradication of drug-pricing controls. However, investors have started being a little cautious because India's political climate seem uncertain with doubts on the stability of the ruling federal coalition government.

Regulators applaud continuing rally in domestic stocks
Article Abstract:
Security regulators in China are attributing the rally on the domestic stock exchanges to improving confidence in the domestic economy. Comments made by local market regulators on the Shenzhen Securities Times newspaper reveal that soaring share prices on the domestic stock exchanges reflect government success in reviving domestic spending. The Chinese government is hoping that by boosting share prices, the country's sagging domestic consumption will be revitalized.
