Inspection sequencing and part scheduling for flexible manufacturing systems
Article Abstract:
The interaction between inspection sequencing heuristics and part scheduling policies in a flexible manufacturing system were examined via simulations. The problem, which is actually an extension of the inspection location problem in a serial production system, was investigated with respect to the inspection cost rate, ratio of inspection time to machining operation time and probability of nonconformity. The results underscored the role of inspection plans on the selection of a part scheduling rule.

Genetic algorithms for the two-stage bicriteria flowshop problem
Article Abstract:
Two genetic algorithm-based methods of solving the two-machine bicriteria flowshop problem are proposed. The NP-hard problem aims to minimize the total flow time subject to the condition that a minimum makespan exists. Computational experiments reveal that the procedures, which are known as the Vector Evaluated Approach and the Weighted Criteria Approach, are effective pathways to solve the problem and may be extended to multi-machine multi-criteria cases.

A bicriteria two-machine permutation flowshop problem
Article Abstract:
A bicriteria two-machine permutation flowshop problem was analyzed in which scheduling of jobs on two machines are inferred to be continuously available. The problem, which can be addressed through the use of three branch and bound approaches, involves jobs that are available at the initial stage of the scheduling period. It also involves setup times that are added into the processing times and jobs that are not preempted.
