Intel on wheels
Article Abstract:
Ballard is a Canadian company which is developing fuel cells for automobiles. The cost of fuel cells is falling and they have the advantage of not creating harmful emissions. Ballard has already developed a prototype bus fleet using fuel cells. The company has some 300 patents and aims to move from research to mass production. The company's industrial partners include Daimler-Benz. There are still questions as to how far the market for fuels cells can grow, but petroleum companies could join the drive for cars powered by fuel cells.

Selling fuel cells: electric cars
Article Abstract:
Cars powered by fuel cells produce no pollution, but they are very expensive. The major catalyst used in the fuel cells is platinum. Ballard Power Systems has developed a way to reduce the platinum needed and therefore reduce the costs. Necar II, by Daimler-Benz uses Ballard technology.
