Investing in an acquisition strategy

Wholesale bakery and retail group Lyndale Foods, recently the subject of a 66.5 million pounds sterling buy-in by HSBC Private Equity, has made a number of acquisitions, including the ten-outlet Annes Bakery. Lyndale also acquired a 91-outlet bakery chain, Mountstevens, in November 1997. The acquisitions make Lyndale the UK's second-largest retail bakery chain. The company's success can be attributed to good management and a clear strategic vision.

Nottingham teams score at home and abroad

Acquisition and merger advisers based in Nottingham, England, have handled a number of high-profile deals in 1999. Catalyst Corporate Finance arranged the 54 million pounds sterling merger of Cypher Books and Bertrams of Norwich, and Catalyst also advised management in the purchase of Robert Prettie by its management. Browne Jacobson acted for the vendors of fashion retailer Joseph when it was sold to Compagnie Nationale a Portefeuille.
