Japan's growth companies
Article Abstract:
The Japanese economy grew by 1.9% in 1st qtr 1999, following a period of recession, and there are some new companies which have performed well, despite the recession, as well as older and well known enterprises. Many Japanese companies have too much debt, too many employees, and are hampered by excess capacity. Asahi Chemical Industry has low debt levels and strong cash flow, while Fujitsu is also performing well. Both companies have restructured. Other companies such as Honda have performed well throughout the recession.
