Keeping metal detection in hand
Article Abstract:
Adams Electronics of the UK and Ranger Security Detectors of the US have launched their respective metal-detection products. Adams makes the Ultra series, which includes a battery-management system to prolong the operational light of the single 9V alkaline disposable batter. Ultra employs no power in the standby mode; less than 1mA in operation; and 6.5mA in the alarm mode. The voltage is viewed constantly and low voltage is announced by a yellow light-emitting diode (LED). Meanwhile, Ranger's hand-held metal detector is silent until it finds metal, when it triggers a sound alert and flashes a red LED indicator. It needs one 9V battery.

Walk this way
Article Abstract:
CEIA, a company based in Italy, has introduced an elliptical model of its 02PN8 HI-PE metal detector, called Elliptic. The detector has column-type transducers with elliptical sections which are compact and provide a high level of physical stability. Usable transit width can surpass 813mm, which both complies with public access regulations and enables the person passing through the detector to be seen from any position. The archway is defined by an integrated electronics unit. It can be programmed locally or remotely through an RS 232 serial line.
