Kleider Bauer-K ufer W hrl holt neue Textilkette
Article Abstract:
The German fashion retailer W hrl, which recently took over a 51% stake in Austrian Kleider Bauer, is to lead the new subsidiary into the black by 2000. Kleider Bauer saw operating losses in 1997. According to Gerhard W hrl, a reason for the takeover of the Austrian firm was that a fashion retailer has to generate a turnover of at least Sch 7bn to be competitive. W hrl has a turnover of Sch 4.7bn, Kleider Bauer that of Sch 1.8bn. As the first project, W hrl is to introduce the Spanish men's fashion brand Springfield in Austria. Springfield shops could be integrated with Kleider Bauer outlets in the shop-in-shop system. The takeover of Kleider Bauer by W hrl is to affect Austrian clothing producers. Although the share of Austrian brands is already small at Kleider Bauer, it will be reduced further. The share of underwear and traditional dresses is to be increased. Unprofitable outlets are to be closed or transferred to better locations.
