Sales of vacuum cleaners in the UK in 1993 were 2.6 million units, at a nominal sales value of 281 million pounds sterling. The largest market sector is upright vacuum cleaners, although volume sales fell by 3% in 1993 to 1.2 million units. Sales of cylinder vacuum cleaners rose by 14% to 806,000 units, while sales of 3-in-1 equipment fell by 34% in volume and by 35% in value. Particularly strong growth is being seen in the hand/stick vacuum cleaner sector.
