Lockerbie and the Libyans
Article Abstract:
Sanctions were imposed on Libya in 1992, and they have achieved their aim which is for suspects in the Lockerbie bombing case to face trial. The suspects are to be tried in the Netherlands under three judges from Scotland. The sanctions had little impact on most Libyans and have been suspended. They may be permanently lifted after Libya shows that it has disavowed terrorism. The US still has unilateral sanctions against Libya with no clear aim. They are the type of sanctions that bring the practice into disrepute and should be suspended.
