Article Abstract:
The prices of mangoes are currently ruling between Rs500 to Rs2500 per box of five dozen in the wholesale market at Navi Mumbai but are expected to come down as arrivals pick up. Mangoes have started coming in from producing centres like Malvan, which is quoting at Rs500-800 per box of 5-6 dozen; Devgad mangoes are priced at Rs1000-1500, Vengurla at Rs800-1200 and Vijaydurg at Rs2000-2500. Export quality mangoes are currently ruling at Rs350- 400 per dozen but exporters feel that prices will decline soon as arrivals increase. (khr)

The rupee opened at 42.5025 against the dollar and closed at 42.4950 in the foreign exchange market on February 2, 1999. Dealers said that there was a comfortable supply of dollars throughout the day and a lot of banks were seen selling to the State Bank of India. The six month forward premiums were quoted at an annualised 6.89 percent on February 2, 1999 against 6.87 percent on February 1, 1999. (khr)
