MCI Worldcom acquires SkyTel for 1.21 billion euros

MCI Worldcom Inc. has acquired SkyTel Communications Inc. for $1.27 billion (1.21 billion euros) in shares. The deal represents MCI Worldcom's move toward providing wireless services. The deal follows unsuccessful negotiations between MCI Worldcom and Nextel Communications Inc. SkyTel is the second largest paging service in the US. Shareholders will be given 0.25 share of MCI Worldcom providing that the average trading price of MCI's shares remains higher than $80.
