Harvard Business School Prof Gary Hamel says three practical ways to improve strategic planning are bringing in outsiders, using innovative thinking and generating enthusiasm at all levels of the company. Although some of his proposals have merit, they do not work for all firms.

Elections were held Apr 13, 1997, in Eastern Slavonia in Croatia, in hopes of bringing peace to the area by giving the majority ethnic-Serb residents some autonomy. The UN oversaw the elections, which became chaotic due to incompetent management and deliberate sabotage.

The British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY, are both trying to cope with stingier governments which are less likely to make appropriations to the arts a priority. The Met is trying to show how much its visitors add to the New York economy.
