Management in Europe: learning from different perspectives
Article Abstract:
The concept of management varies across Europe, although there are certain common factors that link the perceptions of top European managers. The key philosophies include the importance of negotiation, managing between extremes, balancing international diversity and the orientation towards people. Data from a study designed to produce a general management picture in Europe is presented. An analysis of the views of top British, German, French, US and Japanese managers concludes that while many management characteristics are universal, some perspectives are influenced by demographic differences.

Benchmarking the learning capability of organizations
Article Abstract:
Organizational learning implementation is complex due to the lack of a systematic approach. It is proposed that a benchmark of learning capability enabling managers to overcome specific barriers in building a learning organization, could be achieved by identifying and measuring necessary organizational characteristics and management practices. An Organizational Learning Survey was developed to measure learning capability and it was found that the OLS discriminates between organizations on characteristics significant to learning.
