Marsh attacks
Article Abstract:
Marsh and McLennan has acquired Sedgwick, a British insurance broker. This follows a number of acquisitions in the sector which have left three major insurance brokers from an initial 12. Brokers with greater volume have greater bargaining power and insurers are already faced with lower premiums, so tend not to like larger brokers. Purchasers of insurance favor large brokers since their rates fall. Regulators tend to protect end consumers rather than large companies, and have not become involved in this process of consolidation.
