Matsushita plans further investments in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Matsushita Electric Industrial (MEI) (Japan), electrical technology company, plans to invest CEK 3.3 bil in the construction of a plant in Pardubice, the Czech Republic. The firm wants to commission the mobile telephone and car radio production plant in Oct 2001. The plant should produce 2.4 mil mobile telephones during the first year of its operation. MEI wants to extend the production of its plant in Plzen, the Czech Republic, at a cost of USD 73 mil. The plant, which was built at a cost of USD 66 mil in 1997, manufactures Panasonic colour TV sets. In 2000 the plant produced more than 1 mil TV sets. The majority of the production was exported. The plant in Plzen should also produce stereo and digital devices from 2002.

Compaq Computer will start production in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
Compaq Computer (US), computer firm, will commission two plants in the Czech Republic. The investment costs on computer production in the Czech Republic will amount to USD 150 mil. Multimedia computers for domestic use will be produced by the plant of First International Computer (Taiwan) in Rudna-u-Prahy, the Czech Republic. Desktops for professional and office use will be produced by Foxconn (Pardubice, Czech Republic), which is owned by a Taiwanese firm. Every second computer sold in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, region EMEA, should be produced in the Czech Republic. About 3 mil personal computers Compaq were sold in EMEA in 2000. About 42,000 pieces of the quantity were sold in the Czech Republic.
