McDonald's reviews $50M ad biz

McDonald's Restaurants of Canada is consolidating its English Canadian advertising account with one agency. Rem Langan, McDonald's VP for Marketing, said this measure would make the hamburger chain's advertising effort more efficient. The company has had longstanding relationships with agencies Palmer Jarvis DDB, Cossette Communication Marketing and Vickers & Benson Advertising. The three agencies will also participate in McDonald's $50-million advertising review, which will decide which agency will handle the company's advertising account.

Gibbons reigns at Burger King

Burger King Restaurants of Canada, based in Toronto, has appointed Patrick Gibbons as chief marketing officer. Gibbons will be in charge of the fast- food restaurant chain's overall brand positioning and brand development in the country, such as sales promotion, sponsorships, merchandising, product development and public relations. Most recently, Gibbons served for over four years as senior director of marketing and merchandising at Blockbuster Canada in Toronto.
