Men's and women's outerwear in the Netherlands

Output of women's outerwear in the Netherlands amounted to Fl 328 million in 1996, with men's outerwear production reaching Fl 148 million. Exports of women's woven outerwear for the year fell to Fl 1.2 billion, while shipments of men's outerwear rose to Fl 1.1 billion. Retail sales of men's outerwear amounted to Fl 4.7 billion during the year, with women's outerwear amounting to Fl 6.8 billion. Total clothing sales for 1996 reached Fl 11.5 billion. It is expected that the decline in the Dutch clothing market will be halted in the short term, although the long-term downward trend is set to continue.

Women's outerwear in Germany
Article Abstract:
The women's and girls' outerwear industry in Germany had a turnover of around DM10.4 billion in 1996, down some 5% from 1995. Increasingly, goods are made under contract in other countries, with imports reaching around DM12.2 billion in 1998 and exports amounting to DM4.4 billion. Retail sales are estimated to be between DM30 billion and DM42 billion. Small specialist retailers account for around 45% of sales, followed by specialist multiples with 30% and mail order with around 13%. The market is not expected to improve in 1997 or 1998.

Men's outerwear in Italy

In 1995, Italian production of men's outerwear totalled 8,500 billion Lire in value and 105 million units in volume. Over 50% of production volume is accounted for by exports, representing around half in value. The market is enjoying a steady recovery since a decline between 1991 and 1993, with forecasts for a continuation of the slow recovery.
